The game drives were my favorite part of the trip. The reserve we were at, called Hwange (wang-ee) National Park, was huge. Of course, the elephants were my favorite.

Elephants crossing the street

These elephants didn't bother looking both ways before they crossed the road in front of us. They didn't need to. They could have charged our truck and smashed it like a soda can.

Waterhole

We spent over an hour at a waterhole with a whole herd of elephants. They paid little attention to us, playing and washing in the water and socializing.

GiraffeThe giraffes were shy.
We saw this baby with his mother.

King of the HillThese adolescent males played king of the hill for a while. The one on the left ended up conceding defeat.

RhinoIf you look closely, you can see the tag on this rhino's ear. They are so endangered that the government tags them to keep track of them. Sometimes they saw off the rhino's horn, in a attempt to discourage poachers who kill them for it.

Buffalo

We drove right into a herd of hundreds of buffalo.
